Advert evaluation.

Within this unit i was set a task to create a 30 second advert. before going out filming and starting my editing i had to do all my research beforehand. This included mindmaps on many different products to do my advert on, when doing this i analysed the advantages and disadvantages of each thing i looked at, for example i looked at deoderant, food, trainers, cars and energy drinks. The thing i analysed with the most advantages was the energy drink, therfore i chose to persue this into an advert.
After doing all that i then mindmapped a lot of names for my energy drink, and eventually came up with 'stamina' i used this because energy drinks are normally associated with sport and stamina is normally a word used with sport.

After doing all my research I then had to create a logo for my energy drink. before doing this i did some research on energy drink logos, and interperated the font and colours which are used on them. After doing this I then created my logo using photoshop, firstly i went onto the internet to look for a suitable font to use for the logo for my energy drink, when finding this font i then inserted into photoshop with the name of my logo and added colour, when doing this i then went onto the internet and looked for a heart monitor, i did this because it gives connotations of fast pase and energy, i created the logo in green so it could stand outand have a brightness to it. I also used rather a bold and pointy text in order to make the logo stand out and look very energetic. Within doing all this i also had to choose the right type of song for the advert, which had to be an upbeat and dominating song, i did this by youtube searching a list of songs i thought would be suitable for my advert, in the end i chose 'sweet sensation-chase and status'.

After creating my logo i then did all my paperwork and planning for the advert, this included recce's, risk assesments, and storyboards, this took at least a week. After doing all my paperwork i then went out and filmed my advert in the college gym using one of the students from college, this consisted of many different camera angles, gym machines and many takes in order to get it all right.
After filming my advert i then imported all the footage onto the computer in order to edit it to a professional standard. As the advert had to be only 30 seconds long there was a lot of footage which had to be taken out and not used. The editing process consisted of swapping and changing between footage and matching different angles up in a sequence.
After editing the the advert i then decided to do a voice over of the tag line for my energy drink which was 'for heavy work outs', this consisted of a quiet room and a recorder, i got my teacher to do this as he has a manly voice and he makes himself sound very bold and convincing.

The first part of my advert consists of a boy walking into the gym room, this is filmed at a low angle in order to enphasize the fact he had gym shoes on and gym shorts on which shown he was ready for a work out, this was also to create suspense as i was wanting to work my way up to the head and upper body. The next shot in this advert is of the boy warming up using the small equipment doing some small weights, this is also to create suspense and show it is starting to warm up by doing weights. After this i work my way up again by showing a low angle close up shot of the boys face, i did this in order to show the audience/viewers the emotion and the concentration of the work out, by doing this they will think the drink makes you more engaged in your work out.
After that shot i then made the advert more intense by showing the boy in the advert doing a bar weight, this is to emphasize that the energy drink makes you more strong and powerfull, i then did this shot in a sequence, so it then moves onto a close up of him and his arms, and then moves in even closer to his arm muscles. After that the music then picks up its pase therfore i have inserted a shot of his legs running on a tredmill which picked up the pase of the footage, i then used a few pan shots one of the machine and the weight he was lifting, then one of him using the machine i had filmed on the beofre shot. I then decided to do another sequence shot, the first one was focused on his head, then his upper body being a low angle shot to make him look more dominant, then the next one was on his feet. The final shot used in my advert was focused on the product which is what the advert was used for in the first place, the final shot is of the boy in the advert drinking the energy drink, making sure the logo is facing the camera, this also includes the voice over at the end which says 'for heavy work outs' and also includes the brand logo on the bottom left of the screen in order to make people aware of what the product is called and what to look out for in shops if it was in shops.

Overall i feel that the outcome of my energy drink advert was very effective, and i filmed and edited it to the best of my ability, it appeals to the target audience because of the type of music i chose, the filming i did and where it took place and the logo i created for the advert. I also feel the advert meets the core objectives to the brief because, i included all my planning and research, filmed it all to the best of my ability, and chose the correct things that linked in with the theme of the advert.

people watching my advert

Qualitative Questions for advert

I was asked to create a qualititive questionnaire for people who had viewed my advert and i had to create 5 questions asking the viewers what they each thought of the advert and questions where it allowed them to explain themselves in good detail. The questions which i asked my viewers are…
1.How well do you think the advert promoted the product?
2.How well was the advert constructed?
3.What did you find best about the advert and why?
4.After watching the advert what do you think of the product?
5.What would change and why?
And these are some of the responses and all of the feedback that i received from asking these questions.

When Lauren Hamer answered the questions on my questionnaire the one that stood out the most was 'How well was the advert constructed?' as you can see Lauren thought the advert was constructed very well. she mentioned how all the shots fitted in with each other and fitted in just right with the music. This response made me feel very good as i feel that i fulfilled all my plan to make sure everything fitted.
When Jack Dale answered the questions i think the one answer which stood out was 'what did you find best about the advert and why?' He answered about the running scene as he thought it changed the advert completely when the music changes. I was very happy with this response because in my advert the i imported that scene in order to change the pass of the advert and it seems that it was successful.
